“…He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” (ESV)
As we read Psalm 23:3, I can imagine that it may be common to view the paths of righteousness as a path that is trouble-free and well travels. I think it’s our human latitude or desire to think of righteousness in a trouble-free manner, but let me assure our thinking that this righteous walk is not an easy walk, nor is it a walk for the faint-hearted or cowards.
There are going to be “paths of righteousness” that our Lord will lead us in for “His name’s sake,” not ours. Each path that God leads us in will be for His glorification and His honor only. We are not to be glorified, or boastful, if we are led down a path that leads to wealth and riches because God could have just as easily led you down a path that is full of sorrow, and pain; that said, even that path (one of sorrow and pain) is still a righteous path for “His name’s sake”, if He leads you down it.
You know if you’re on a righteous path, when you desire to only please God according to His word, and when His word is your daily compass. Jesus said in Luke 6:46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” (ESV) If you and I recognize Jesus Christ as our Lord, then we accept His authority and keep His word as our foundation for each decision that we make.
This righteous walk is a walk of faith, and this faith walk is intentional to please God. We as Christ believers must be intentional and purposeful within our daily, righteous walk of faith before God, and not to work for salvation (you cannot work for something that is given to you), but to work unto the belief that you have in Jesus’ word.
You and I walk this righteous path because we undoubtedly believe in the Word of God, which is the Son of God, who is Jesus, The Anointed One, whom we recognize and honor as our Lord.
God Bless You,
