from a Minister's pen
I am a married man, and my wife and I have four kids together. We have a great relationship and God has truly kept His hand of mercy and grace upon us. Throughout the many years of our marriage, we have not always seen eye-to-eye in many areas because of one simple truth, we are two distinct people. Yes, we are married and live as “one” with one another, but we have two unique personalities. As you may imagine, like any marriage, there are discussions that become intense; and one may even dare to use the word “arguments.” Now I know you may be a little holier than I am, but let’s be real for a moment and align on the fact that not every marriage, even in a Christian home, is without faults. When such times come, to keep the peace, my wife and I compromise when we cannot completely agree on an area or topic. This allows us to continue our loving, transparent, and fulfilling relationship with each other.
Now my relationship with God is quite different. God does not compromise with me, and I dare not try to negotiate with the Creator and Sustainer of all things. Even if I sometimes have a hard time accepting God’s will for my life, God will not acquiesce to my desires, my feelings, or my wishes. For me to have the right relationship with God, I must submit to His will and His ways.
If you are Christian and love God with all your heart, mind, and strength, then I am sure that you want God to walk with you continuously. The scripture asked the question, “Do two walk together, unless they have agreed to meet?” (Amos 3:3 ESV). The scripture simply means that two parties must first come to an agreement before they start walking together. Prior to each of us having a relationship with God, we must first agree with God, with the expectation that God will not bow His standard to us.
If we want a right-standing relationship with God, God’s standard is what we must accept. We must agree to the whole counsel of His word. We cannot divide God’s truth, substitute it for a lie, and expect God to walk with us each day. We must understand that God will not decrease, minimize, put aside, or hide His holiness to have a relationship with us. We are imperfect people, but there is a perfect God, and His name is Jesus. The blood of Jesus Christ allows us to have a right relationship with God because Jesus is our sacrificial offering as the Lamb of God.
If you desire to have a right relationship with God but do not know where to start, pray this prayer with me:
“Father God, I come before you right now just as I am. I acknowledge my wrongdoing and repent of all my sins. I ask that you forgive me for all the wrongs that I have committed knowingly and unknowingly. I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord, and I receive your forgiveness through the blood of Christ. Thank you, God, for hearing me and receiving me unto Yourself. In Jesus' name. Amen.”
God Bless You,
